Free healthy lifestyle courses to start across Suffolk in January
December 21st, 2015Suffolk residents who are planning to make a New Year’s resolution to be healthier are being urged to take advantage of free weight loss and physical activity courses that are starting across the county in January.
We are launching 12 of our successful ‘Lose Weight with Live Well Suffolk’ programmes in the New Year. The 12-week courses will run in Ipswich, Felixstowe, Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill, Sudbury and Waveney (Lowestoft and Bungay) and will help individuals to make small, manageable changes to their diet and physical activity levels in order to achieve long term weight loss.
We have already delivered a number of weight loss courses across Suffolk and in 2015 we helped almost 650 local residents to lose weight. We also help young people in the county to maintain a healthy weight with our ‘Lose Weight with Live Well Suffolk for Children’ courses.
Karen Davies, dietitian at Live Well Suffolk, said: “Losing weight is one of the most common New Year’s resolutions that people make but it can be a very overwhelming experience with different approaches and conflicting advice. In our Lose Weight with Live Well Suffolk programme we focus on supporting people to make really simple lifestyle changes which together add up to result in a sustainable weight loss.
“As well as weight loss support for adults we can also work with families to support children and young people who are above a healthy weight to help them understand more about healthy eating as well as helping them to be more active.”
We also have 16 weight management courses for children and young people starting in the New Year in Ipswich, Felixstowe, Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket, Newmarket, Haverhill, Sudbury, Hadleigh, Mildenhall and Brandon.
In addition, we will be starting seven six-week physical activity courses for local residents living in Ipswich, Felixstowe, Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury in the first week of January. Free to attend, each course will focus on activities including Pilates and spin, and will help people who currently do little or no exercise to increase their fitness levels at a gentle, steady pace.
