Entries open for popular Suffolk ‘Oscars’ film-making competition
December 15th, 2015A popular film making competition which encourages young people in Suffolk to think and learn about healthy lifestyles has opened for entries.
Our Live Well Suffolk Oscars is now in its sixth year and is open to budding film makers from schools, youth groups and young people’s projects across the county.
Young people will be tasked with exploring one of three healthy lifestyle topics (smoking, healthy eating or physical activity) and making a film or TV advert which inspires their peers and challenges their attitudes about the importance of healthy living. Schools and youth groups could also enter by developing a health improvement project – an initiative which aims to motivate the whole community to make a small change to improve their wellbeing.
Ali Clements is our School and Young People’s Projects Co-ordinator and is organising the exciting event. She said: “The Live Well Suffolk Oscars get bigger and better every year and we’re thrilled to be launching the 2016 awards. This competition really captures the imagination of young people and is a great way to help them understand the dangers of smoking and the importance of eating healthily and being active.
“We have already had schools sign up for the 2016 Oscars and we’re hoping to attract even more organisations to the competition this year. Last year we were delighted to watch some fantastic films and hear about the great results of some health improvement projects, which encouraged young people to make all sorts of positive lifestyles changes which included drinking more water, eating breakfast every day and discouraging them from smoking.”
Groups that sign up to take part in the Oscars competition will receive support from our team, who will be able to work with pupils to develop their knowledge around the healthy lifestyle topics.
To enter the Live Well Suffolk Oscars, groups must register their interest by 24th March 2016. For more information, contact Ali Clements on 01473 229281 or email ali.clements@livewellsuffolk.org.uk.
