New healthy lifestyle course for young people to start in Felixstowe next month
January 26th, 2015Families who sign up to a new healthy lifestyle programme that’s starting in Felixstowe next month will also receive free access to the town’s leisure centre facilities.
We are starting a new weight management programme for children and their families in Felixstowe on Thursday 5th February and have teamed up with Felixstowe Leisure Centre to enable families to use the swimming pool and gym free of charge.
The ‘Lose Weight with Live Well Suffolk for Children’ course is a completely free programme for children aged between 2 and 16 who are above a healthy weight. Nicole Waddington and Laura Howard-Dobson from Live Well Suffolk will be running the Felixstowe group and will work with young people and their families to help them understand more about healthy eating as well as helping them to be more active.
Thirteen-year-old Ellie Agnew is one Felixstowe resident who has already benefitted from the programme. She joined the course in June 2014 and lost 14kg (over two stone) and even after completing the course, Ellie has continued lose weight. She said: “Laura and Nicole were really supportive, encouraging, non-judgemental very friendly and easy to talk to. I am so much fitter and healthier, my complexion is clearer and I am much more confident and determined to continue on my journey.”
Nicole added: “Ellie has had an amazing journey and is a great example of how eating a bit healthier and moving more can improve health and wellbeing. In our weight management groups we offer practical support and advice to help young people and their whole family take steps towards a healthier lifestyle. If this sounds like something your family could benefit from, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.”
By signing up to the programme, all children will be able to swim for free for the duration of the course and those aged 11 plus will be able to use the gym for free at certain times of the day. Parents or carers will also receive a free seven day pass to support their child.
The course will run from the leisure centre on the seafront from 4.15pm-5.45pm every other Thursday. There will be eight sessions in total, consisting of 45 minutes of nutritional education and 45 minutes of physical activity. Families will be able to work with us for a total of six months.
