Families in Ipswich who are looking to improve their health and fitness in 2015 are being encouraged to take advantage of free BMI (Body Mass Index) checks on offer in the town this week.

We are offering the free checks at our Adelphi House headquarters on Turret Lane in support of this year’s National Obesity Awareness Week, which runs from 12th-18th January.

As part of National Obesity Awareness Week, families are being asked to set a New Year’s resolution to make small changes to their lifestyle that will have a positive impact on their health and wellbeing. We are also reminding families that they are on hand locally to help them achieve their goals, whether that’s eating more healthily or being more active.

Live Well Suffolk dietitian, Karen Davies, said: “If families make just a couple of small changes to their eating and exercise habits, together, they can really make a big difference to their health. Eating a portion of fruit or vegetables with every meal, walking or cycling to and from school rather than driving or drinking more water and less sugary fruit juices or fizzy drinks are all good changes to start with.

“For parents, adopting a healthier lifestyle can help to reduce their risk of heart disease, strokes, diabetes and even some cancers. Meanwhile, for children and young people a balanced diet and active lifestyle will aid their healthy growth and development and improve their long term health as they get older. It will also help them feel more confident and energised for school.”

For adults and children who are interested in improving their health and fitness in 2015, we are encouraging them to pop along to see us to have a free BMI check to see if they are a healthy weight for their height. The BMI checks will be offered from Monday 12th–Friday 16th January, from 10am-4pm every day at Adelphi House, 8 Turret Lane, Ipswich, IP4 1DL.
