New walking football course launched

April 10th, 2013

If you are a keen football fan but would prefer a gentler way to boost your overall health and fitness, we have a unique new walking football course that will start in Ipswich on the 18th April, at Goals Football Centre at Suffolk New College.

Walking football is a unique fitness course designed to encourage people to get into the game without the pressures of keeping up with a fast pace. Open to men and women, walking football is an ideal choice for those looking for a lower impact activity, or those who would like to try a slower aspect of the game, as it features a traditional five-a-side game of football, held entirely at walking pace.

The course focuses on tactical skills and ball control, rather than speed, and has grown in popularity over the past year.

Our free six-week course will take place on Thursday afternoons from 1.30pm – 3pm. The course will be led by an FA Level 2 qualified coach, and will feature 30 minutes of fun drills and exercises followed by a game of walking-pace football.

Richard Crick, Senior Community Health Coach, said: “Walking football is a relatively new concept and is designed to make the game more accessible to all. It is ideal for those who enjoy playing football but prefer not to get involved at a competitive level. By bringing it back down to basics, the course is focusing on the various skills involved in the game and is a great way of encouraging people to become more active.”

He continued: “We are really looking forward to bringing walking football to Ipswich. It is a really enjoyable activity and is a great way of improving your overall health and fitness in a sociable way. We would encourage anyone who is thinking of taking up football to get in touch.”

The walking football course is expected to be popular and advance booking is required. To register a place on the course, phone 01473 229292 or email tasters@livewellsuffolk.org.uk Some eligibility criteria will be applied.
