Workers vow to quit together for No Smoking Day

March 8th, 2013

A group of twenty employees from PPG Industries (UK) in Stowmarket have pledged to support each other after vowing to stop smoking for life. The group will be kicking off their efforts at a special ‘smoke free’ breakfast to celebrate the national No Smoking Day which takes place on Wednesday 13th March.

The healthy breakfast has been arranged by our specialist stop smoking advisors who will be supporting the team on their journey with free weekly stop smoking sessions which will be held at their workplace.

During the ‘smoke free’ breakfast, the employees will hear the inspirational story of Rod Adams, a local man who has successfully quit after smoking for over 55 years. Rod used our programme and has now been smoke free for twelve months.

Our trained stop smoking advisors will be there to speak to the group about the best ways to cope with nicotine cravings and how they will be providing individual and group advice in the coming weeks

Steven Lee-Foster, Director at Live Well Suffolk said: “We would like to commend the staff at PPG Industries for taking the brave choice to stop smoking. The quitting process is never easy, but it is much more achievable when you have the support from other colleagues.”

He added: “The national No Smoking Day campaign has been running for 30 years and has provided an incentive for thousands of smokers to stop throughout the country and we will be doing everything we can to support the group at PPG Industries on their journey to a healthier lifestyle.”

PPG Industries (UK) employees 350 people at their Stowmarket base, and the implementation of the new stop smoking clinics is the latest healthy initiative available to all staff. The company regularly offers a range of healthy workplace activities and aims to have a completely smoke-free working environment by July.

Speaking of the stop smoking initiative, Lisa Santillo, HR Manager at PPG Industries (UK) said: “We take the health of our staff very seriously and we are delighted to be working with Live Well Suffolk to support our employees throughout the quitting process.”

By taking part in the Live Well Suffolk programme, smokers are eligible for over £100 worth of free nicotine medication (prescription charges may apply) or other medication.
